Overview on Functional Skills

Alternative qualifications are vital to ensure that everyone has access to success. Our Functional Skills qualifications give the learners the alternative option to GCSE, enabling them to progress in learning, life and their careers. It also gives them the option to resume Higher Study or access to university. These courses give the learners practical, functional and indispensable skills in both the field of literacy and numeracy. The level of the learners is assessed and accordingly they are offered courses from entry level 1 to Level 2.

Literacy

English literacy has got 4 components namely, writing, reading, speaking and listening.

Entry Level 1 in English
Entry Level 2 in English
Entry Level 3 in English
Level 1 in English
Level 2 in English


Numeracy

Entry Level 1 in Mathematics
Entry Level 2 in Mathematics
Entry Level 3 in Mathematics
Level 1 in Mathematics
Level 2 in Mathematics

Duration of each level is 8 weeks.
Student Per Class: Maximum 15
Morning: 09:00 - 12:15
Afternoon: 13:00 - 16:15

: Classes are normally scheduled to start every Monday with the exception of bank holidays
: Anyone leaving early will not receive attendance for the second half of the class. If there is an emergency, students may request permission from the Director of Studies to leave up to 15 minutes early.

  • College will provide the course materials and other resources with the help of awarding organisation at a subsidised rate.

    We adopt formative assessment to determine the progress of the learners. There are 3 different types of test for the students at set times during the course:
  • Weekly Quizzes
  • Monthly assessment test
  • End of course, final examination
  • Please Note: Our academic team will decide when the student is ready to progress to the next level according to all the test results. We provide awarding organisation certification after successful completion of every level.
